Out to Sea

One of my birthday requests (besides getting this guy up here - fail.) was heading to Tomales Bay Oyster Company for a few hours of shucking in the sun. 

The holiday weekend packed in the picnic tables with more Marina-frat-boys playing beer pong than usual, but it was still a pleasant weekend spent in the shelter of a lone tree and sparse grass (note: tree attracted a family of Asian tourists who took refuge in the rare shade, and camped out in our food!). Once we returned to the city, it was pretty obvious we had made the right decision to get out: the cloud cover was heavy. 

On Wheels

I love to ride. I still have memories of my family taking weekend rides in our neighborhood, and miss my pink cruiser, which is currently stashed away in SoCal while I remain bikeless in SF. Ever since Jo introduced me to Spinlister, a bike sharing program designed much like my beloved Lyft, I thought it'd be a way to ride in the city. Truth be told, it never happened, and when the ride sharing company went caput a few months into it's introduction, I was pretty bummed (although the idea of riding down Market daily wasn't all that appealing). Now that summer is upon us, all the glamorous shots of bike rides has got me thinking it might be time to invest in something with a little more power. My cruiser should probably remain at the beach, anyway.

Food Art: Playing with Food

I like food...a lot. I practically moved to San Francisco because the San Diego food scene was a bore, and have continued to develop my passion for cuisine now that I consider myself an official resident. So when The Bold Italic - one of my favorite blogs - featured a conceptual art project that cut favorite foods in half (well, my favorite foods - like hot dogs, ice cream and noodles) - I had to share.

A New Outdoor Space

Since I've been back and forth between San Francisco and home lately, I've made it my mission to create an outdoor space in what used to be a garage in my parent's backyard. Santa Barbara's relatively moderate climate calls for an outdoor space that is both comfortable and cozy for those "winter" evenings, and I think that an outdoor living space is the perfect thing to accompany the pool and lush landscape we already have outside. I've been looking through Pinterest for some inspiration, and started watching HGTV ("Design on a Dime" is a new favorite!) for some additional ideas. It's going to be a DIY summer. 

Jumping into SF

When you move to a new city, there are a lot of things to learn - navigating a neighborhood alone can tough, let alone an entire county full of new people, roads and restaurants. I've come to realize just in my short time in the Bay Area, despite coming here monthly as a kid, that I know very little. But this naivety is something to treasure, especially as I search for a space to call my own in San Francisco. 


The copious amount of neighborhoods in San Francisco alone is enough to make my head spin. Josh has used the site for international trips, but I haven't yet attempted to rent a space domestically, and moving to a new city seems like the perfect time. When guests come to visit, I'm planning on picking one for fun - maybe David's Old Victorian flat next to Alamo Square, or Tim's place near the Castro. With endless options for variety in the city, it might not be so difficult navigating after all.
